Grace Adesina (’17): The privilege of following a dream by successfully enrolling in a university is one that only few Nigerians can afford. It is almost impossible to explore different career options in the current, über-specialized education system of Nigeria Coming to America, and consequently Fisk University, gave me the opportunity to choose my major and find my passion. Rather than merely following an assigned career pathway, my Fisk journey instilled in me the drive and confidence to create my own future.
Roquibat Giwa (’17): Fisk University has helped me achieve my academic goal which is to acquire a well-rounded understanding and interpretation of my courses that would allow me obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. With this, I hope to achieve my long-term goal of earning an MD/PhD in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Being at Fisk has also exposed me to various opportunities, in terms of classes, extracurricular activities, research opportunities in other academic institutions such as Vanderbilt University, the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and other organizations that helped prepare me for the vigor of graduate school after Fisk. I have also had the opportunity to interact with other goal oriented students, outstanding teachers, supportive faculty and enthusiastic alumni who all together have created a warm and fostering environment that has helped me grow, not only as a student but as a social individual.
Samuel Adeogun (’16): I enrolled at Fisk University 4 years ago with the goal of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, however I left Fisk with much more than that. Over the course of my academic career, I became not only committed to knowledge acquisition but also to the application of this acquired knowledge and skills in solving societal challenges. While Fisk challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, the tremendous support I received from the faculty and my peers made my experiences worthwhile and meaningful. I can say with conviction that Fisk has modeled me into a leader and a scholar and I can attest that my Fisk Experiences will be invaluable in the next phase of my life as a Software Engineer at Microsoft Corporation
Ashli-Ann Douglass (’17):I arrived at Fisk on August 22, 2013 knowing very little about the university besides that it had a long-standing tradition of excellence. This reputation was clearly not confined to the boundaries of the United States since it reached me in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Like most other Fiskites, I fell in love with the beauty of the campus immediately and found that it has a perennial, warm, familial vibe. I have found too, like I hoped, that its faculty is outstanding, has high expectations of all students and are committed to helping us succeed. The experiences I have had at Fisk, in and outside the classroom, have truly been amazing. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years here thus far and look forward to my senior year and years to come as a proud alumna!
