Jacquelyn Favours '13
Joins Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance
By Matt Schorr for Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance
Jacquelyn Favours, who recently joined the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance as Program Coordinator II, hopes to draw on her experience in data collection and analysis to further community-based research in Nashville. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Fisk University in 2013 and Masters of Public Health degree from Tennessee State University in 2015. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
“I’m excited about the work I’ll be doing because I believe that community engagement is essential to quality research when focusing on the needs of the community,” Jacquelyn stated. “With my background, I not only feel like I will make contributions to the team, but also learn more while working with stakeholders and community partners.”
Favours joined the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance January 25, 2016. Prior to that, she was Project Director for the Nashville Children Eating Well for Health (Nashville CHEW) project, a multi-institutional collaboration among several academic institutions – Tennessee State University, Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University – and community organizations. Its aim was health promotion and reducing childhood obesity. During her time there, Jacquelyn oversaw data collection and data cleaning, and planned the organization’s annual conference.
“It targeted Women, Infants and Children (WIC) moms and families,” she explained. “The purpose was to promote healthy eating and to use WIC vouchers more efficiently when buying fresh fruits and vegetables.”
Before Nashville CHEW, Favours was a research consultant at Meharry, collecting data for epidemiology and health disparities. She focused primarily on breast cancer in minority women.
